When bub points, they're starting a conversation. Name it back straight away β βYou want the ball? Ball!β β then hand it over. Do it every single time and the word sticks.
Ask βwhat's this?β, then wait β count to five in your head. It feels long, but that quiet is where bub gathers up a word and has a go. Resist filling the gap.
When they say a word, light up, copy it, and add one more: βDog!β β βYes β big dog!β You're gently stretching one word into two, which is the road to little sentences.
Hold up two things and name both: βbananaβ¦ or apple?β Let bub point or say. Choosing gives them a real reason to talk β and they learn their words make things happen.
Look at you two chatting away. Keep these going every day β and when bub starts stringing words together, the Yarns Room is ready.
