Swap yes/no questions for open ones: “What's the doggy doing?” “Where should we go?” Then wait and really listen. Open questions pull out longer answers.
Don't just read — stop, point, and talk: “What's that?” “Uh oh, what happens next?” Letting bub drive the story does more for talking than reading every word.
Be their little commentator: “We're washing hands, splish splash! Up the stairs, one, two, three!” Everyday chatter is the richest language there is — and it's free.
